Container shipping is used for a variety of reasons. Some of the main reasons are:
★ Some ports do not have RORO shipping.
★ Sending several cars in one container can be cheaper than sending them individually by RORO.
★ Containers provide security and safety as well as weather protection.
Unlike RORO however, the freight is not the only cost involved.
There is a charge of ¥ 25000 to ¥ 30000 per car for securing the vehicles in the container. This is known as “vanning” or “lashing”. In addition, there is also a Terminal Handling Charge (THC). The THC varies from port to port.
The good news: There is a ¥ 15000 export fee included in our FOB charge, so the extra charges for containers do not add up to all that much.
For example, if there are 4 cars in a container, the total vanning cost would be approximately ¥100000. However, in this case, a customer would generally need to pay about ¥ 40000 (¥ 15000 x 4 = ¥ 60000 is already paid in the FOB charge).
